Apple TV's App Revolution

Apple recently announced the new Apple TV and with it a new way to view and experience apps. Apple recently demoed apps for AirBNB and Gilt, and opened up the platform to third party developers. So what’s the big deal? You’re probably thinking “I don’t need apps on my TV when I have them on my phone.” Well, you might be right for some apps. But most apps do translate well to the big screen and make the experience that much more immersive and interactive. The living room is the hub of every household, and now with the Apple TV it can become the place to share and experience apps with others. With this newfound ecosystem, I wanted to imagine how Apple TV apps could change how we design and think about apps.

The New Window Shopping

The New Window Shopping

With the ability to shop and browse clothing through their TV, users are now incentivized more than ever to ditch retail stores and shop at home. Premium brands such as Nike are likely to benefit from an Apple TV app with the ability to offer high-resolution catalogs, interactive content and videos.

How about car shopping? Everybody I know, including myself, dreads going to the car dealership and having to deal with aggressive sales people. How much cooler would it be to do a virtual test drive at home?
