Live Activities

In 2022 Apple approached Uber Eats to be one of the first apps to showcase their new Live Activities widget. As the lead designer I partnered with Apple’s team to help define the Live Activities framework for tracking real-time updates outside of the app.

Opportunity

We had the opportunity to be the first app to utilize Live Activities for real-time delivery updates. Users were now able to track each step of their order without having to open the Uber Eats app.

Defining the framework

Working hand-in-hand with Apple, I helped define how Live Activities can be used for order tracking. This framework is now used by a multitude of other platforms.

Grocery use case

I also considered how Live Activities can be utilized for the grocery use case, notifying users if items in their order are replaced or require their attention.
